But our people have seen little of the benefits and have carried many of the impacts.
Now, a new wave of energy development is happening.
That includes wind farms, solar, batteries, transmission lines and other technologies.
It also includes the decommissioning of coal, gas and old energy infrastructure.
These changes bring risks and responsibilities, but also opportunities.
As the representative of Gunaikurnai Traditional Owners, GLaWAC is negotiating with industry and government to get good outcomes for mob.
GLaWAC is at the table, and we are putting forward the aspirations of the Gunaikurnai to those companies seeking to build new energy projects on Country, including Sea Country.

Gunaikurnai at GNEC – August 2026
Gunaikurnai had a strong presence at the Gippsland New Energy Conference (GNEC) in Traralgon, where GLaWAC continued to advocate for the rights and interests of Traditional Owners when there are new energy projects on Country.
GLaWAC staff and board members were featured in key discussions at GNEC highlighting our successful engagement with offshore wind companies, and the need for Gunaikurnai involvement in mine rehabilitation.
