Respecting a Welcome to Country or Traditional Ceremony:
A Welcome to Country is a traditional custom of cultural significance to Gunaikurnai people. As such, it is important that appropriate respect is given to those conducting a Welcome to Country.
Visitors to Gunaikurnai Country should show respect for the continuing culture and traditions of Gunaikurnai people by observing appropriate cultural etiquette. This etiquette will be advised, if necessary, at the time of booking.
The Cultural Hub invites you to consider why you have booked a traditional ceremony and asks that you remain respectful and show your appreciation at the conclusion of the ceremony.
Notice required when requesting a Traditional Ceremony or Cultural Education:
Requests for a Welcome to Country, traditional ceremony or cultural education must be submitted to GLaWAC at least two (2) weeks before the scheduled event.
Where the required notice is provided, GLaWAC will respond within a reasonable timeframe, with a minimum processing period of two (2) business days following the initial request.
Cultural consultations may require consideration by Elders and community members. We appreciate your understanding that these matters may take several weeks, and occasionally longer than a month, to be determined.
Requests submitted with less than two (2) weeks’ notice may be considered at GLaWAC’s discretion and may incur an additional urgent request fee.
Fees involved in conducting a Traditional Ceremony or Cultural Education:
Where GLaWAC approves a request for a traditional ceremony, cultural education or consultation, the relevant fees will be communicated to the person or organisation making the booking.
Fees are reviewed annually, and additional charges may apply depending on the nature, timing and requirements of the booking.
The following additional fees may apply:

Urgent Request Fee – $550: Applies at GLaWAC’s discretion, based on the amount of notice provided before the event.

Request an Elder – $330: Applies when requesting a Gunaikurnai Elder to present at a ceremony or event. All Elder requests are subject to availability.

Public Holiday Fee – 20%: An additional 20% fee applies to cultural services scheduled on a public holiday.
All fees are subject to 10% GST and will be charged accordingly.
Travel to and from the event is charged separately at the applicable Australian Taxation Office cents-per-kilometre rate.
Can I film or photograph a Traditional Ceremony?
A traditional ceremony is an individual expression created by the person conducting it, and due respect should be given to its intent at all times.
Cultural services are generally not intended for public broadcast, including publication on social media.
Requests to film or photograph a traditional ceremony must be made at the time of booking. Approval is not guaranteed and is subject to the consent of the person conducting the ceremony.
Cancellation Fee:
Cancellation fees apply based on the amount of notice provided before the scheduled event:
Cancellation fees ensure that presenters and field workers who have been booked are appropriately compensated for their time and commitments.
Cancellations must be communicated to GLaWAC as soon as possible.
General Information:
An email will be sent to confirm that your booking request has been received.
Once a presenter has been confirmed, their name will be provided to you, and your contact details will be shared with the presenter to assist with event arrangements.
Please note that bookings may be affected by cultural matters, including Sorry Business. Where possible, GLaWAC will endeavour to organise alternative arrangements.
We ask that presenters are made to feel welcome and are given the opportunity to participate in the entirety of the event should they choose to do so.
Following the event, an email will be sent to confirm that the cultural service was completed and to request any feedback regarding the service.
Invoices will be issued directly by GLaWAC following the event.
