Tractor Crew Receives High Praise for Burn-Reduction Work
2 January 2026

These fellas work hard, and they’re good at their jobs.
Paul and Ian Harrison are two members of GLaWAC’s Tractor Crew.
And they’ve been very busy of late, doing burn-reduction work on public lands all over Gippsland as we head into another long, hot Australian summer.
In the lead up to Christmas they were doing burn reduction slashing at Lakes Entrance-Lake Tyers Coastal Reserve.
Earlier in December, Paul, Ian and crew member Max Solomon were working down near Loch Sport, doing tractor slashing to create firebreaks throughout Gippsland Lakes Coastal Park and the Lakes National Park.
Those parks are two of the 14 parks on Gunaikurnai Country that GLaWAC manages in partnership with Parks Victoria or the Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action (DEECA).
It isn’t easy work, but our tractor crews take pride in what they do, and as a result they are earning high praise from our partners and customers.
We were stoked to hear from our friends at Parks Vic and DEECA last month, who called to congratulate the tractor crew on their work at Loch Sport.
Our clients said they were impressed with how neat and thorough the slashing work was, saying “it looked like they had cut it with a lawnmower.”
They praised the overall quality and standard of work, the care taken with machinery, and the efficiency of delivery.
When slashing work is done using a tractor, some crews often leave a telltale diamond shape around the base of trees, because they don’t take time to go back and run the slasher right up to the base of the tree.
Not our crews. That’s all about attention to detail, and pride in the work.
It was terrific to hear from our mates at Parks Vic and DEECA this week that this attention to detail doesn’t go unnoticed.
Deadly work fellas.
