GLaWAC Crews Continue Buchan Munji Improvements

20 February 2026

GLaWAC’s Business Enterprise Services team has been kicking goals of late, completing a wide variety of projects that protect Country and promote Culture.

Their latest achievement is the completion of repairs to the Spring Creek Walk at Buchan Munji (Buchan Caves Reserve), which we are proud to say was completed two months ahead of schedule.

Deadly work fellas.

The Spring Creek Walk has taken a real battering these past few years.

The bushfires of 2019/20 burned the footbridge, waterfall viewing platform, and other pieces of timber infrastructure along the walk.

And then the Boxing Day flooding in 2023 washed away much of the track that remained.

Repair works began in the second half of last year, thanks to the help of a number of contractors and our friends at Parks Victoria (PV) and Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action (DEECA).

Buchan Caves Reserve is one of 14 parks across Victoria that GLaWAC jointly manages in partnership with PV and DEECA.

In October of last year, sections of the footbridge and deck were constructed off site and then air-lifted in by helicopter.

After that, our Business Enterprise Services team got to work and, led by Chris Hood, Tyson Harrison and Aaron Cooper, got the walk ready to reopen to the public before Christmas.

The Spring Creek Walk is now looking top notch, sporting a new footbridge, waterfall viewing platform and steps and handrails down to the Granite Pools Track.

This work is about providing access so mob can connect with Country, and visitors can enjoy the natural attractions of our part of the world.

Later this year, you’ll start to see new interpretive signage around Buchan Munji that highlights the stories, perspectives and history of our people, and their powerful connection to this area.

These projects are part of our broader mission to make Culture and the stories of our people a more prominent and visible presence in the Buchan Caves Reserve.

We promise to keep you posted when we have more news to share!
