A tasty way to learn

At GLaWAC, we believe that community strength grows from the ground up – on Country, through culture, and with opportunities that reflect who we are and where we come from.
That’s why we’re thrilled to be launching a new project in partnership with TAFE Gippsland:
Growing Traditional Foods on Wurruk.
It’s a project that brings together hands-on horticulture training, Gunaikurnai knowledge, and local food production, building a stronger future for how culture and career can grow side by side.
Here’s what it’s all about:
- Offering a Certificate II in Horticulture delivered by TAFE Gippsland, in a culturally safe and supportive setting.
- Support community members to grow, harvest and supply native bush foods, including for the Bush Café at GLaWAC and other local businesses.
- Build skills that open up real opportunities – in agriculture, in business, and on Country.
- Ensure Gunaikurnai Cultural and Intellectual Property (ICIP) is protected and respected every step of the way.
This is about more than training. It’s about bringing cultural knowledge and practical skills together to strengthen both people and place.
Big thanks to the Victorian Government’s Agricultural College Modernisation Program, their backing helps us make sure the work is done the right way – led locally, shaped by community, and built to last.
We’ll be sure to keep everyone updated as the project gets underway. Keep an eye out for how you can get involved too.
