CEO Announces Departure in 2025

9 December 2024

Dear Members,

I’d like to let you know that Daniel Miller, our CEO, has decided to step down in early 2025. He will continue to lead GLaWAC until a new CEO has been appointed, ensuring a smooth and stable transition.

Daniel joined GLaWAC in 2017 as On Country General Manager and has been our CEO since 2021. During this time, GLaWAC has grown significantly, now employing over 100 staff. He’s also played a key role in building strong relationships with government, partners, and community, supported the rights of our mob and positioning GLaWAC as a trusted advocate for the aspirations of you members.

Some key achievements under Daniel’s leadership include:

  • Securing early outcomes from the RSA renegotiation, including four new jointly managed parks.
  • Launching the Pathways to Partnerships strategy, ensuring our community’s voice is central to the energy transition on Country, laying the groundwork for lasting opportunities for Gunaikurnai community members.
  • Advocating for alignment with DEECA’s emergency response framework, giving Gunaikurnai a seat at the table to shape emergency response strategies and support our aspirations to heal and manage Country.

As shared at last month’s AGM, the organisation is in a strong financial position, and we will continue to lead initiatives to strengthen our operations and advance our strategic goals.

GLaWAC is ready to lead on major opportunities like the energy transition on Country and Treaty negotiations. We’ll keep building on the strong foundations Daniel has helped establish to deliver better outcomes for our members.

The process to recruit a new CEO will start in January 2025, and we’ll keep you updated as this progresses.

On behalf of the Board, I want to sincerely thank Daniel for his dedication, his continued support through this transition and for his service.

Yours sincerely,
Troy McDonald
Chairman of the Board
