GLaWAC wants to understand the need of our community—both those living on Country and off—so we can shape support services and programs that meet everyone’s needs and aspirations. There are plenty of opportunities coming to Gunaikurnai Country, and we’d love for all mob to get involved.

We’re working on an IPA (Indigenous Protection Area) Plan covering the coastline from east of Wilsons Prom to Mallacoota, and now is more important than ever for Sea Country. With offshore oil and gas being decommissioned, and offshore wind, and carbon capture and storage being proposed, we need a strong voice to ensure Sea Country is cared for.

Onshore, the coal mines are closing and will need to be remediated, and there are dozens of new solar, battery and wind projects being proposed. New transmissions lines are required to connect this new energy back into our homes and industries.

Amidst this industry transition, there are opportunities for our mob in employment, business development and other benefits flowing through. None of the other work stops either, we’re still exploring tourism opportunities, including what’s happening at Nanjet next to the Prom.

Come and be a part of the conversation. Let’s yarn, connect, and plan for a stronger future together!
