GLaWAC Launches New Energy Strategy
18 August 2026
“Learn from yesterday, be proactive today, and aim for a strong, healthy mob and Country for tomorrow.”
This powerful statement by the GLaWAC Elders Council describes perfectly why GLaWAC is keeping a close eye on the new wave of energy development that is coming to Gunaikurnai Country – things like wind turbines, solar, batteries, transmission lines and other technologies.
Gunaikurnai people have been promised great things from industry before.
But those promises were never fully realised and our people have found themselves no better off, our Country sick and scarred.
The next phase of energy generation on Country will be guided by the wisdom passed from our Ancestors, to our Elders, to our community.
We see a future in which the energy industry invests thoughtfully in a thriving and prosperous Gunaikurnai community, and protects the land and waters on which it relies.
Our vision of that future is laid out in “Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow – GLaWAC Energy Strategy” which we proudly launched today at the Gippsland New Energy Conference.
Featuring artwork by Robbie Farnham, our Energy Strategy makes very clear that we are committed to getting good outcomes for mob by negotiating with industry and government.
It also lays out what our goals are for mob:
- More opportunities for jobs, training and business.
- The chance to heal Country damaged by old energy systems.
- Greater authority in how projects are planned and approved.
- Stronger protection for cultural heritage and Country.
- Fair benefits from projects happening on our Country.
- Support for families to navigate changing energy costs and technologies.
